The Legacy of Blok Pool
A Family Journey That Started with a Dream

At Blok Pools, we're more than just a business

– we’re a family legacy.

It all began with the founder , Bert Blok, who immigrated from Holland to the village of Beachburg  after World War II. Originally, he worked on a farm and then in an  upholstery shop , met a  Pembroke girl and fell in love. Life went along but  everything changed in  early 1966 when he attended a trade show and saw something that caught his attention: swimming pools.

He decided to install one in his own backyard for his family, and the impact was immediate. Weekend barbecues with family and friends around  the pool soon became the focal point for building family memories and good times .

It wasn’t long before Bert  came to believe that every family should have  this kind of connection and happiness.

From there, Blok Pools was born, offering the residents of the upper Ottawa Valley  an opportunity  for families to bond, create memories, and grow closer together in their backyard with a pool.

Over the years Bert and Phyllis built a successful business Blok Pools and everyone in the valley knew the tag line “Keep cool in a Bert Blok Pool”. Son Steve and daughter Kathy worked along with their parents from time to time in the pool business keeping the family legacy alive  .

In 1998 shortly after Phyllis passed away Bert decided to sell the business to his oldest grandson Lee who had worked for Bert during the summer while attending Ottawa U. Shortly after graduating Lee decided that the pool business wasn’t for him so his father  Dave ( married to Sandra Bert’s daughter )  took over until Matthew who started working with his grandfather when he was 14 ,  bought the business in 2023  and the family legacy lives on with Ari (Matt’s son) learning the business .

Today, we’re proud to carry on Bert’s  passion for bringing families together, and with every pool and hot tub we install, we honor the values and the people  that started it all.
